The Welcome Dinner

The Welcome Dinner

On Thursday evening, for those who just couldn't wait to get to Austin, we'll be hosting a dinner with some of Texas' most infamous BBQ. The Salt Lick is renown for its 150 year old recipes and mammoth helpings of some of the most delicious meat you'll have ever seen. It's a sure-fire cure for jet-lag. While we thought only 50 people would show up, 100+ RSVP'd so we needed a last-minute venue change... and what better place than a local distillery, specializing in vodka, rum and gin. So we'll be sitting down at the Treaty Oak Distillery in Dripping Springs.

It might look like it's out in the middle of nowhere, but don't worry - we'll have a couple buses departing from the South Congress HotelBuses leave at 6:30pm (but you can always Uber out to meet us). We'll eat/drink/be merry and return home around 10pm.

TL;DR:

  • Treaty Oak Distillery (16604 Fitzhugh Rd, Dripping Springs, Texas 78620)
  • Buses leaving from South Congress Hotel at 6:30pm (drinks for a bit, then an 8pm sitting).
  • Back in Austin by 10:30pm.

The Warm Up

The Warm Up

To give people the chance to enjoy a classic Austin past-time, and to help flush out the copious meat you'll have consumed the night before, we're going to spend a day relaxing in the water, Texas-style. Which means floating down the Comal River in inflatable rings, enjoying the sun, and drinking the beers that are tied to your tube.

We'll meet at South Congress Hotel at 12pm.

From there we will be driven up to the launching point at Comal Springs, and then let the river bring us back to civilization. Find out more about tubing here. Bring a towel and sunscreen, and you should eat before you get on the river (but don't forget the 30min rule!)

TL;DR:

  • Tubing the Comal River
  • Buses leaving from South Congress Hotel at 12pm (expect to be on the river for 3-4 hours).

The Hangover Recovery

The Hangover Recovery

One of Austin's most (in)famous hangover cures, Torchy's cemented our relationship when we first came here 6 years ago. There is nothing, and we repeat NOTHING, that will sharpen up some fuzzy corners better than a Trailer Park Taco ("Trashy" of course).

On Sunday morning, we'll all meet at Torchy's Tacos (the Trailer Park location) to fill up on proper TexMex and fill in the blank spots together. We'll be there from 10:00am until midday - please drop by when you're able/up to it. It's an easy 8min walk from the South Congress Hotel.

TL;DR:

  • Torch's Tacos (1311 S 1st St, Austin, TX 78704)
  • 10:00am - 12pm Sunday.
